A locomotive re-naming ceremony to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the heroism of two railway workers in 1944.

Two EWS Class 66 locomotives were named to mark the actions of Benjamin Gimbert GC and James Nightall GC who, on June 2nd 1944, save the lives of many people in Soham, Cambridgeshire. Driver Gimbert sustained serious injuries and Fireman Nightall lost his life.

Lew Adams from the Strategic Rail Authority, Richard Bowker Chairman of the Strategic Rail Authority and Ian McAllister, Chairman of Network Rail performed the ceremony and were joined by others from the rail industry and local community.

Great news from The Nene Valley Railway.73050 Standard Class Five, City of Peterborough moved under its own steam, the first time in 18 years.A chance visit to Wansford on Saturday 4th June 05 luckily coincided with the careful first movements around the yard. In a few days they will start the "running in" process by doing return trips to Yarwell Junction.Well done to all concerned.5 Photos
